NW Washington | Therein lies the number one problem with a disc opener no-till drill in a cereal, pulse, oil seed rotation. Great for pulse/bean crops when no fertilizer is usually applied, but otherwise you can broadcast the fertilizer on the surface or knife it in the ground in a separate pass over the field. The JD 1895 and Bougault airseeders have mid-row openers or banders between every other row for fertilizer placement, but not the smaller box drills.
The Cross-Slot drill is the only one that will place fertilizer and seed using the standard opener. | |
