The photo PB posted of the "old" machine appears to be that of a Drill Press that has a variable speed spindle and possibly power feed on the "Z" axis (spindle or quill). It also has provisions for moving the fixtured part in the "X" and "Y" axis by way of the hand wheels via probably acme threaded screws. Looks like a good heavy drill press, but it is not a milling machine.

This is an example of the kind of machine that would work well in a small repair/production shop.
