Subject: RE: looking for a combine

Farmington, Maine
I sure don't need to spend big bucks for harvesting 80 acres. I figured something used for around 12,000. I know of only one combine in my area and it's not for rent so I need something.

I just looked on line and found a IH 1420 in Quebec which is close by that looked pretty good for about $10,000.

I need something I will be able to get parts for in the future too.

You guys know combines, I don't because there are very few around here. The last time anybody grew any amount of small grain in my area was just after the civil war. At that time the railroads started bringing in grain from the West and the small farms of New England could not compete.

Now however small farms in this area are looking at growing oil seed for biodiesel and some of the grain we feed out. With milk prices hitting rock bottom it's grow it yourself or go out of farming.

Thanks for any help
