Also depends on the make of machine you use. "going ski-dooing" is a common enough phrase for guys that run bombardier products, but ask a Polaris owner if he went ski-dooing, and he will get snarly and say "No, I went sledding!"
Like any slang phrases, it depends on the area and even the age of the people doing it. As for the seed-drill-plant topic, "here" we would say seed or seeding the crop, and use some type of drill to do the job. The only time I would use the word "planting" is when I'm talking about putting in the garden.
