"out west", in Wyoming & Idaho, snow-machine is a common term there also. Here in Iowa, seems the most common term is "sleds." But that may be more slang.
Just different language for different places. Kinda like here in the midwest we "combine" our crops, and in the plains they "harvest" theirs.
