Subject: RE: Iowa Grain Truck Photo!

Alton, Ia
1. It looks to me like the wagon is empty. Hard to say for sure, but the tires sure aren't squatted much. We pull empties to fields all the time with pickups, especially in beans. Pull them out, spot them, combine for a few hours, then fire up the tractor.

2. When loaded, I move 700 bushel for an average investment of $3300. Two smaller wagons together, with a tractor I already own. I doubt anybody can beat that with a truck. Our farthest haul is 4 miles, 90% is within 2 miles, so I don't see a big advantage to trucks. This is down gravel roads with such little traffic if I meet someone, I'll pull over and stop if needed. Happens maybe 2-3X day, during the "corn rush".

3. Right now, only two of us haul loads. One with 50 yrs experience, one with 25. When the first retires, and/or wife or generation 3 starts to haul, I will probably trade these in for some 650's with brakes. (And then when I pull them, I'll hook them together :) ) But for right now, these are our best system, we feel.

They work for us, but as they say, your mileage may vary.
