One of the classes I sat in on some years back at the NTOTP Conference in Salina discussed that. They claim that it will work it's way into the ground at the rate of about 1" per year naturally, but that one should not apply but about 1/4 the required amount at a time. Ph levels can be quite high in the top 1 - 2" of soil if one dumped 1 to 2 tons/acre at once. That was several years ago, I don't go every year. Things might have changed.
