If you follow Jons lead and go SCH, make sure your wobble box is in good order. I traded for a 1020 with SCH sections and guards 2 years ago. I never saw such a bad job of cutting. New guards, new sections, same old cut. Saw an add for the SCH prodrive, and called SCH. They told me how to check the Case box. It had 2 or 3 times the allowable play. I bit the bullet and put in a Prodrive, and couldn't be happier with the cut. Hope this helps
Thanks for the wobble box tip Buster, The wobble box on the 1020 is excellent, very tight. The wobble box on the 925F has end play in the pulley shaft that produces a slight but distinct knock at each end of the arm travel. This winter I need to repair or replace that box. Anyone know if that shaft has bushings or tapered bearings on that shaft that are worn ?
The shaft / pulley moves 1/16 inch in /out at each end of the knife stroke, causing a knock when the shaft hits either end of the box. Might well be why I have broken that SCH knife about 1 ft from the drive end. |
