North Western Alberta
I have been toying with this idea. You could build a large centrifugal fan, belt driven off an old engine and tranny, and have the exhaust gasses go through a heat exchanger on the fan ducting, as well as the radiator. You would scavenge probably 75% of the heat, and the engine would spin the fan, as I said. I think for drying and aerating, this would be quite an efficient way of doing it. And, best of all, simple. You could run ducting to each bin, and have the engine and equipment in a little shack, between all the bins. I dont think it would be that hard to do, nor that expensive, cause a dryer is big cash, and not terribly efficient either. A little chevy 2.8 V-6 or something would probably be ideal. I think it woudl be quite efficient, cause mechanically, there wouldnt be that much load on it, and if you recover the exhaust gas heat, that is most of the inefficiency of an internal combustion engine.
