southern MN | It is natural gas, not lp, that he is talking about. There is not enough lp - you would have the same supply problems with lp as with gasoline. Natural gas there is a lot available in North America, independent of petrolium supplies.
It's a wonderful fuel for stationary things. The problem with it is making it mobile. You either need a _very_ large tank, or _very_ high compression to take any sort of energy density with you.
In talking with some on a different board, they say you can get 50-100 mile range on a 400psi tankful (rather than the extreme pressures needed for a useful range), and then switch over to regular gasoline if you need to go farther. Hum. Sounds complex then, dual-fuel, heavier vehicle, etc.
I'm doubtful on natural gas being a good fuel for transportation. A lot of issues on getting it mobile.
