Matt,
It seems that Skiprow has been and still is the config. of choice for marginal areas, in NSW & QLD.
Our sorghum last year was really doing it tough, and the solid stand plants (which had more room to move in the row) just seemed to battle it out better. Are you meant to back you're plant population off when doing skips?
To me it just makes sense to have even amount of space around the plant rather than just two sides.
