Subject: RE: Dryland Corn Plant

Victoria, Australia
GM Corn won't be available in Australia unfortunatley. I've been following the progress of the Drought tolerant corn varieties in the US, but due to various restrictions and small market in Australia, we are stuck with conventional lines.
Most varieties are 110crm and longer, so a bit limited in the shorter season types. Sounds like parts of Kansas may be similar climate. We mainly grow Wheat, Canola and Chickpeas. Tried Sorghum but cant get it to dry down at the other end. Corn has consistantly out yielding the sorghum.

As for heat. The later we go the hotter and drier it gets. once we get to Jan-Feb temps regulary hit 38-45 deg C, also Jan & Feb are our lowest rainfall months. Just amazes me how corn seems to cope with that.
