I assume he has a flow meter on his tank? If it is like the one on our draghose, it will still show some low number per hour when it is off, but the total will not change. When running it may say 40,000 Gals per hour and when it is off it sometimes says 35 gallons per hour, but nothing is really going through and the total stays the same. Sometimes it may even show a negative number. I think it is just some wet manure running down the empty pipe.
