Ted - i agree with your hog manure issue BUT, per the EPA: manure application rates must be calculated based on yield and manure test values. going one step farther, some operations must now base manure apps on their soil test levels to determine if they can apply based on nitrogen or phosphorus. so, whether manure applications rates are "right" or not, the applicator must calculate the application rate based on all these factors. so wouldn't it be reasonable to say variable rate manure makes sense? maybe not because we can accurately control the nutrients being applied but because we are forced to apply the "right rate".

having said this, we are currently setting up a liquid tank with a mag meter, raven hydraulic valve and insight directcommand system to be able to: 1. apply the "right rate" based on the above criteria and 2. be able to variable rate the manure if we desire.
