With 6$ corn,13$ beans , I'm not cutting anything.
As far as soil testing, roots go everywhere, sideways ,vertical ect. A composite of the whole profile is better than a select area in my opinion. Last year with the dry weather you needed deep N and P and K. A plant can't pull nutrients from dry soil. Anyone in our area that sidedressed N or used surface urea last year in june found that out.Cost them bigtime yields.
