I'm guessing 1st gear if it's doing ditchwork- 3rd would probably be flying for that kind of stuff. Never done any ditches like that so I'm just guessing though. I'm no Cat expert but I'd guess 3T as well. I'm not sure what the cutoff is when they changed from 3T.
