E.Central MN | I'm not sure how different the 87 is from the 83, but our 83 acted like that and it was the glow plug controller. It's the thermo sensor that was screwed in toward the rear of the engine and it trips the relay that power the glow plugs. Bought a new one at a metro parts warehouse and noticed the box was open when I got home. Compared the "new" part with the old one and it had a different color band(blue) around it. Installed it, fought with it for a few weeks, finally went to the local Chev dealer and asked what could be wrong, bought a new one from them, right color this time(black) and no more problems. Someone had stuck a controller from a 5.7 into the box for the 6.2 and restocked it (Idiots). If you don't fix it you'll be fixing the starter, too (don't ask). | |
