Subject: 87 Chevy glow plug controller issues

Nusbaum Farms LLC Bellfountain, OR
We've got an 87 Chev with the 6.2, and the glow plug system is having problems. A few weeks ago, it intermittently wouldn't kick on the glow plugs until you bumped the engine over. Lately it's gotten worse, to where you may have to turn the key off & on a dozen times and bump the starter a few times to get the plugs to come on. This morning I couldn't get them to come on at all and I didn't have time to screw with it, so I gave it a shot of ether instead. It actually started better than I thought it would, and once it fired up, then the plugs came on.

I'm not at all familiar with how the controller works on this thing. It's all still original equipment, far as I know. I'm tempted to throw away the @$%#$ glow plug system and hang an ether injector on it instead. I just don't get along with glow plug diesels I guess. Anybody got any ideas????
