Sounds like some cool ideas, Joe. Keep us posted.

I did some back-of-envelope calculations several years ago to estimate how much water would be required to provide cooling all summer, then heating all winter. Turned out to be quite a tank, even when using an efficient heat exchanger. Then again, I was using values for an above-ground structure with good insulation (R-19 wall, R-50 attic) and low infiltration (0.35 exchanges/hr). Move that below ground with expanding foam insulation and energy-recovery ventillation and you may not need a "flywheel" the size of a YMCA swimming pool.
