EC Kansas | We ran several Gleaners for a lot of years without a chopper. Dry straw or bean stems on a low humidity day will be pretty well torn up without a chopper. Some older models that have been modified and newer models have changes in the cylinder and cage that allow the crop to go through with less agressive threshing action allowing longer straw to exit. With the bean varities we grow now that have a lot of stay green in the stems (for whatever reason), we were having issues getting the residue through our fertilizer rig in less than ideal conditions in recent years. We installed a chopper on the 62 we have now, end of problems. It's an old style chopper. | |
