One of the good aspects of a green cover crop in spring is ability to wick away excess moisture and allow for quicker spring plant times.
Others might argue disease carry from grass to corn but I dont think it has been a problem "here".
A dead thick matt in the spring will work against you in a wet year.
Same way with killing sod, fall or spring..........I think my fall killed sod is going to bite me this year in our cool wet Spring (SWMO).
