Cottonfarmer, as an adjuster, we only measure bins when we have to to work a claim. We prefer weighed production. If a farmer has a claim we use certified weights at the elevator if he delivered the grain. If it is in a bin and he does not plan to deliver until the following spring or summer, we will measure the bin. Measurements are a good guess but not perfect. We measure as accurately as we can, and then adjust for moisture, test weight, pack factor, and quality. We then work the claim and pay the lose if there is one. Our measured production is then used for both the claim and also the official APH for the next 10 years. Actual delivery scale tickets the following summer may show we over estimated or underestimate. In either case, no adjustment or correction is made to the claim or the APH.
