Vapor barrier belongs on "warm side in winter" side, so don't matter if the VB is part of the insulation or a separate plastic sheet. It cost a bit more, but I am considering having it blown on, even between studs on finished walls like office/living area. Claim to only need to blow/expand 1-1/2 to 2" and half 50% more "R" value than fiberglass. Open cell and closed cell styles and both seal up so much better than stapled in batts.
