Subject: RE: Branding......waste of time anymore?

Oklahoma
FWIW I had been told that brand inspectors were only used today in states that had BIA/BLM/federal lands that allowed fee grazing. Don't know if that is entirely true but that was the explaination I got from my dad (veterinarian) and one of the OK state Bangs inspectors.

When I was a kid in the early 80s and helping dad work the local salebarn, we never checked brands. The only inspector that was around was the Bangs inspector. I know that my dads brand is not registered and best I can tell one of my grandfathers had a registered brand but my other grandfather didn't. After my grandpa passed away, dad changed his brand and didn't record it anywhere. The only reason he is branding is ID if gets on the neighbor (tags are also used).

I think here in OK (this is purely speculation) brand registration was turned over to the OK Cattlemens Association. Seems like I have seen a OCA brand registry before but no one inspects it that I know of.
