NE SD | I'll disagree with that John that branding should be law. Depends on the location. The cattle we graze the "hills" with we brand willingly as there is lots of stock up there and all it is is native pasture. On the other hand, the rest of our cattle goes in pastures where the only stock within 3-4 miles might be 40 of a neighbors' or relatives' cows. Branding is a time consuming operation. There hasn't been any "rustling" near us for a long long time. I know of a family from NC SD that had some "rustled" recently but it sure seems fishy to me. You tell me how nobody notices more than a half dozen semis in the middle of the night. | |
