| My main concern would be loss of the ammonia portion of the N and perhaps odor. If it's good quality dry litter there won't be that much ammonia or odor. Runoff shouldn't be a big issue because you aren't putting that much on and there should be residue. Here in MD, NRCS has blessed the GP Turbo Till for incorporating manure while maintaining eligibility for the CSP no-till payment. Some are using Phoenix or Phillips harrows but I don't know how effective they would be. The university is currently researching just how much soil stirring is enough with litter. When I can I'll spread immediately before drilling figuring the coulter cart and openers will ncorporate some of the litter. Spreading ahead of a decent rain (not a flood) will also capture the ammonia. | |
