Subject: More Lime Questions

Kindersley Sk.
Help. I need Lime for Dummies.
No one uses Lime in this area (High pH Soil ), but I'd like to try it on a small test plot to see if it will soften the soil structure here. I have a high Sodium soil that gets hard as rock when it drys out. I have read on this forum that an application of lime will drive the sodium off of the Clay, and soften the soil.

Will the application of Lime help to mellow this soil?
Is Gypsum and lime the same thing?
What form does it come in, Powder,Prills,...?
What kind of application rate should a person start out with? lbs/ac tons/acre?
Does it have to be worked in or will rain do the job?
Can doing this wreck the soil if I put too much on?
I know nothing about this.
