Subject: RE: Storing grain in Oil tanks

Big Country Area, area in and around Abilene TX

jcs - 9/20/2007 10:05  One concern we have is that after my grandfather passed away and my dad started trying to buy his place, the appraiser said not to use oil tanks anymore due to radioactivity and other chemicals that may be in the metal. Since some states are now heavily restricting environmental wastes, this apprasier thought in the future if the laws changed and we decided to sell it, they could be a liability and have to be "properly disposed of". .

Rent or buy a Gieger counter to check for radioactivity. I rather doubt that there is very much radioactivity if any to be concerned with. Those tanks were not down in the well.

Harmful chemicals in the metal?? I have my doubts about that one also.

A little research into requirements for a sample to be tested for any type of chemicals in the metal would be helpful. As well as finding out just which chemicals are to be concerned with.
