What is there not to believe? Removal is just that - removal. It is amount of material removed - bushels/acre times bushel weight times concentration of a nutrient on a weight basis. Nutrient concentrations vary year by year, by variety, etc. The question is that how much you need to apply. To answer that, you need some basic soil test data. Have a farm that was uses as a manure dumping ground for 20 years. No need to add P & K for the next 50 years anyway. Know of others where the farmer bought into a lifetiime of "build youi soil" pitches by fertilizer salesmen that are just as bad.

For biomass harvesting, it is just as easy - weight removed times chemical concentration.
