There are several reasons why we want to get away from corn. We like raising beans but after 3 apps of mn and still yellow beans, one gets tired of it. Corn is a challenge for us to get rid of the residue to be able to get thru it. If I notill it,(which we do) the trash piles up in front of the planter. If we work it, it gets so soft that the dirt balls up. The neighbor plows his and the wind blows it away. This year we tried working some ground again. After 3 passes with a cultipacker I was able to float the planter. I have tried 5 different planters, but none have been satisfactory. Many guys look at our soil and think it must be great to have such high organic matter. I'll trade you for your clay any day. The only thing neat about it is that there is an abundance of prehistoric animals buried beneath it. Our family has found wolly mammouth teeth, jaw bones, and a 5 foot long mooser antler. Still we must figure how, after 5 generations, to farm this ground we have been given.
