| A number of producers in the area are having poultry manure applied to their fields and have little problem with weeds after this application. This could also be helped by composting the manure in some fashion before application as well. Most of the manure used around here is chicken, but some turkey litter as well. I have seen both types increase yields from applications. However, I also have seen applications decrease yields as well. Too much manure can lead to a poorer crop. My advice is to monitor your crop and soil test at least every other year to make sure the phosphorus levels don't get too high. Tissue testing will also tell you a lot about what is going on in the plant during the growing season and it will tell you what you need to do to help it achieve optimum yields.
