I'm using the same program you describe. 5 gal/ac 3-18-18 + 0.5 gal/ac 0-0-25-17s + 1 pt/ac zinc in row and 10 gal/ac 28-0-0 + 2 gal/ac 0-0-25-17s in a 2"x2" band. I sidedress the rest of my N about 30 days after planting.

I'm following U of MN nutrient management BMPs as part of a NRCS nutrient management plan grant. The "starter" is meeting all my phosphorus needs and all my potassium needs (except on one field that I broadcast a 20 lb/ac K) for a 175 bu/ac yield goal. I am following the U of MN recommendations based on my soil test results. My phosphorus is pretty high, but I'm keeping an eye on my potassium levels.

Rain/water has been my limiting factor on corn the past two years I've been using this fertility program, so I can't be completely sure that P & K fertility wouldn't be an issue at higher yields.
