Subject: RE: Harvesting down corn question?

NE MO & W IL
I tried using a 925 platform last year for some severely downed corn. Didn't work well at all. With all the moisture from it being on the ground it just kept plugging the platform up. Broke the slip clutch and stopped. Like every one else said, A LOT of material going through the combine. Combines where not meant to take the whole stalk through, much different than brittle soybean stalks and straw.

I have down corn again this year and just started today (got rained out an hour ago). This year I have poly snouts and a cheap corn reel (Minden reel)...after trying it today, all I can say is WOW!. The combination is amazing. I was running 3.5 mph through stuff that I would have normally just pushed along with my old metal head.

If your lodging is moderate, just get a poly head. If it's bad, add a corn reel. They are a very cheap investment if you have major acres to get through.
