Hanford, CA | Loran...I use statistics to cut through the manure. Eddiedry had some great yields in there, but had only one replication. In no way shape or form am I saying it is not valuable information, b/c it certainly is. On-farm trials are wonderful to determine what works for that location. I use LSD's to determine the upper tier (or significantly higher) yielders in the group. When you have 14 entries with only on rep, your standard deviation will be higher than with multiple reps. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a great way to analyze data over years with multiple entries & reps (can do it on an Excel spreadsheet). A comment made earlier in the thread about not switching over to the top yielder (or something to that effect) is correct, but of course under similar conditions those top tier varieties will be in the top tier again. There are variances within each plot and standard deviations help take this into account. | |
