Always was taught by grandpa and dad to run the last pass in the direction of the planter to prevent row units from running up and down and causing inconsistent seed depth. I'm sure it could be argued fiercely that if your last tillage pass causes inconsistent seed depth, then your field cult/harrow is not setup correctly. But I work in the real world and realize the tillage implement is going ot leave some ridging under the harrowed surface.
