Subject: RE: Applying dry fertilizer while drilling Milo

Hoisington, KS
I put on 50 lbs. of 11-52-0 with the drill with my milo. I have separate boxes on the drill for the fertilizer so it's not mixed with the seed. I drilled the milo on 20", but the fertilizer went out on 10". I had a neighbor try no-till milo this year and the only fertilizer he put on was with the drill and he put down 46-0-0. I don't know how many lbs./acre, but I'd be leery of doing that, but his milo looks twice as good as their conventional drilled milo. I don't know how responsive milo is to P because I have some ground that calls for 50 lbs. actual P and I put on 25 and some ground that calls for 0 lbs. P and the milo all looks the same. One thing for sure is that milo definitely responds to no-till. A month ago all the milo looked good, now after three weeks of no rain, 100 degree days the no-till stuff still looks really good and the conventional is burning up and the heads are alot smaller.
