I haven't done a true side by side in several years but in the past we would typically see around 10bu better off the manure. This is in a no till environment. Should probably look for some side by sides that I might have this fall and check again.

We ONLY run our 7300gal Houle in the fall. If we do it in the spring we have compaction problems. We have done it in the past and then disc'd behind it so we can plant into the wheel tracks easier, it helps with emergence but not with deeper compaction.

We haven't had any trouble with compaction when we get it all done in the fall. We normally sample and test each pit and adjust our rates accordingly.

Here is a picture I took this spring of a little corner of a field that I put NH3 on this spring, the rest of the field had hog manure last fall.

Some of the pictures look a little rough but thats becuase the wind was blowing about 35mph.
Pictures were taken june 7th. Planted the same day (april 23), same hybrid. Only difference is fall applied manure and spring applied NH3.

You can see in a couple of the pictures that we planted diagonal to how the manure was applied... makes is pretty obvious.
