NEMO | We have one farm hot with blackleg so we Vac. in the spring at turnout, 2nd time Late Aug./early Sept and then again at weaning.
Used to not vac. in Aug/Sept until we found out the hard way we had the problem - found 6 of the biggest calves dead, bloated looking and blood at the mouth. Vet posted them and said blackleg. Got all the calves in and gave the long lasting Penicillen along with blackleg shot. Thankfully no more died.
The next year found a nice size calf dead in the fall at the same farm and figured blackleg, posted and was lead poisoning from some hunter during the youth portion of deer season. | |
