Most clostridial toxin deaths (yes, the toxin that the bacteria produce is what kills them and I'm lumping all the related diseases together) frequently occur in the best calf in the group when everything is going really well as opposed to the usual stress related things like coccidiosis and shipping fever/pneumonia.

Never seen "nervous" coccidiosis that wasn't a chronic disease. Not real sure how you would confirm it without having seen any symptoms to point to it, even if you had a calf at a fully capable diagnostic lab. Maybe histopath, but like most other tests, that needs to be compared to the symptoms and history.
