South Central Kansas, Harper County | Have a neighbor that has been hit hard with this. He has bought several loads of 450-550 weight calves to put on wheat pasture, this winter. Seems like he has pulled quite a few head for treatment, and vet said it is probably mycoplasma related. He has a pasture south of his house where he is putting his sick ones, lots of lame cattle out there. I think he has used Draxxin with various levels of success. My pens are half a mile south of his place, and so far, I havent treated many sick cattle. Our cattle have come from differant regions of the country than his. I have heard others in my area have had problems, and most say it is mycoplasma causing it.
Done a little reading on the topic, and looks like it could be devastation once in your herd, very contagious, from what I have read. Is this a stress related problem, that gains speed when this occurs? Or, is this a progression of pneumonia that triggers the outbreak of mycoplasma? Just curious. |
