| I rent pasture to some good neighbors for $27 AUM for a 5 month grazing season which comes to $135 per head for the summer grazing season. So I hope you can see from my perspective, $400 seems like highway robbery.
I have good grass and water including 2 good wells and a pipeline. Neighbors help me get the fence in shape and keeping water system operating. The calves are off now. I have some limited man-made and natural protection but if the weather gets bad they have to take the cows home when they see fit. Most years the cows stay until Christmas or New Year's.
I want our arrangement to work financially both for me and my neighbor who has used my pasture for 10 yrs. $400 for the summer pasture bill takes a lot out of a calf check. But if it works for you and your banker, more power to you.
