Driftless SW Wisconsin

I have some late season clover pasture that looks about like your picture but in SW WI.  I put a bale of hay in a ring in the pasture and let them choose to graze or eat the hay.

Most northern forages need some time in the fall to rest with sufficient leaf area to put some reserve energy into the roots before freeze up if you want them to come back strong next year.

But once it gets that rest you might as well graze it. Having hay out balances the high protein as mentioned above. It also keeps them from eating it right down to the ground.

We are forecast to get some rain turning to snow over the next few days. Forage growth is pretty much done. I suspect you are 2 or 3 weeks behind me. Maybe use some electric wire to let the weakest area of the pasture rest and graze the best part with a bale of hay out in it free choice.  Good luck.
