One year we were able to rent some irrigated wheat near Clovis. Calves were on wheat when we bought them weighing 440# just before Christmas. We grazed them out and they went at 850# in mid May. Only Ruminsen blocks and wheat. Good open winter and plenty of forage. Probably wouldn't want to figure that every year, though.
