Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot
No Santa Ana winds here, lol. We are about 500 miles north of that area.

Our dew is fairly reliable on the lake bed. Usually moisture in the ground and enough in the air from adjacent fields that are being irrigated to make dew. Potato and onion guys generally only run sprinklers at night, and those fields keep moisture in the air. Sometimes a little much. Now go to the edge of the valley and gain a few feet in elevation and dew is harder to come by. They can make prettier hay only a few miles away as they don't loose as much color from dew. But it is harder to get good leaf retention in the bale without good dew.

Timing for baling can vary a lot with the nighttime temps, humidity, etc. Sometmes it doesn't set until dawn, other times it can be to heavy or even frost by then. My hay partner hates baling at night, he'd rather buy more balers and bale it all with the dew coming off in the morning... hell at least it is daylight then. Usually start about 7 am. If we have to bale at night midnight is pretty common.

Interesting idea with the baler btw. Seen lots of good ideas tried, bale bandit was one. Always ends up being too much of a hassle for much tonnage. Hay is already too much work.
