Subject: RE: Moving cows north? 3/8ths ear cattle work fine in

Wallis, TX
Its been too long since I studied that in school but daylight does play a part in hair growth. A trick for getting show calves to grow hair is to feed them melanomin (sp) which is what the body produces as the days get shorter. However, I personally don't think that is all the equation. Cattle here don't grow near as much hair as they do in OK. I have seen cattle from the same sire living in northern Oklahoma and our cattle at the stock shows in March and they always have more hair.
