Missouri
Where does one stop. No labor, cowboys to old and most that are left drive tractors only. No fences, all are 50 yrs plus, put in after the war, most of the guys that put them in are in the ground. No grass, much of it was plowed out over the last 3 years, with much of it this last year, cows and hay could not compete with $150 cash rent. Pickups drove the roads looking for old hay fields, if it did not have trees it went to soybeans. No water, drought has moved north this last month and grass and water is getting short fast. Much of the hay has been bought up and either is owned to be hauled waiting trucks or has already been shipped south. Ear cattle, cut off would be I-70 to be safe. Would need to send parka's for each pretty quick. Our cattle are haired up already 38 degrees last two nights. Call from rancher this week looking for feed for 600 cows, needed 1500 bales of hay, felt sorry, recommended a commercial tub grinder for roughage and products from ethanol plant for protien and energy. Best news I have to offer is $6 corn comes closser to working than $10 best of luck.
