Big Square - 10/2/2011 11:55 How did it work out this spring, I think Scott was on here during calving season and had AI'd and sync'd all the cows and they were calving in 10 degree weather, and had like 20-30 calves dropping a day. How did that turn out? I've been the black baldy route bought a set of F-1's from a producer, I think he had hereford based cows. Thought we really had something. 3-4 years later bought another set from him. After only a couple of years these second set of hiefers, now 4 year olds started delevoping the hereford udders, many of those cows didn't make it past 5-7 years. First set of heifers lasted much longer for some reason. Sounds like you didn't get a true 50/50 set that second time, probably closer to 5/8 or 3/4 hereford. I know our buyers don't want anything to do with those, they have to be 50/50. If those cows look horrible then I think your neighbors overfeed, a cow should always looks her worst when she has a calf on her. |
