Central Iowa
Thanks for your input guys. I worked with hogs a lot when I was younger, but we've been out of the hog business now for about 10 years. In the 90's we were a small 40 sow farrow to finish operation. We had two small farrowing rooms and a small nursery. The hogs were finished in open lots and sent to market at about 250 lbs. Then, in about 96' or 97' we quit farrowing and started buying feeder pigs at about 40 lbs. In 2001 we emptied the lots and have never had a pig on the farm since. We were just too small to make any money at it anymore; plus the buying station we hauled the fats to closed up. I always enjoyed having hogs around the farm.
