Time will tell but I think mark has hit the nail on the head. The angus folks figured out how to become the symbol for premium beef. Angus is a household name for the common person to recognize and people are cashing in on it from the farm to the plate. I cant tell the difference between a angus steak or a herford steak but a wife at the grocery store or a family at a restaruant believe that angus means something better than the rest and we all know its about perceptions and not reality. This thread is not about which is better, its about the reality that is americas beef industry and providing what the customer wants and right now they want black cattle.
