Subject: 4-H Sheep feed ration?

Macon, MO
We are picking up 2 sheep for my daughter to show this year at the fair, this is the first time I have ever been around sheep we have always had cattle. Trying to figure out the best ration to feed them, they are going to be in the market class and both are wethers, we are looking for the best rate of gain also. Starting out they will be just weaned, 1 will be around 50 lbs and the other one will be alittle over 60 lbs. I know DO NOT feed anything with cooper in it, I have picked up some sheep supplement from the feed dealer that has Vitamin A, salt, phosphorus, calcium, fiber, and fat in it. I have a unlimited supply of corn and DDG's along with 2nd cutting brome grass, and fresh green fescue. Some neighbors are saying to just mix 3-1 (corn to supplement) and feed them what all they can eat in 20 min. and just let them eat the grass that is there. Does it matter if it is cracked corn or whole, I have the ability to grind up a batch. What are some of your all's thoughts on this and does it make a difference if they drink pond water over rural water (treated). Thanks for all the thoughts I know you all will lead me in the right direction. I'll post some pictures Thursday when we get the critters.

James
